About Me

  The Maths Doctor

I offer online tutorial help with:

  • A-level Maths and Further Maths (Pure, Mechanics and Statistics)
  • Undergraduate Tuition in Pure and Applied Maths
  • Mathematical Methods for Engineering and other Applied degrees

Using Zoom or Microsoft Teams, you can access my help from anywhere you want to.

I'm based in Oxford, but you don't have to be.

Who I am

I am a retired maths teacher, having studied Theoretical Physics (Supersymmetry and Supergravity) at Oxford, and spent a year at CERN as a European Research Fellow.

My Career

I was a Maths teacher at Cranleigh School in Surrey and Sherborne School in Dorset, before becoming Head of Maths (for 11 years) at Canford School in Dorset. I was Director of Studies (also for 11 years) at Canford before retiring in 2018.

My Approach

Maths is impossible if you don't understand it, and the easiest thing in the world if you do. Too many people try to memorise techniques, without making the harder (but more rewarding) attempt to understand the purpose and logical foundation of the techniques they are trying to learn. My approach is to emphasise the importance of understanding, whilst also simplifying access to mathematical methods in order to maximise exam success. Learn what others say
